I've just returned from an excellent weekend at the Green Man festival in the Brecon Beacons. There will be plenty of proper reviews elsewhere I'm sure so here's a quick list of things I particularly enjoyed over the last couple of days.
- Wilco (pictured above) playing Hoodoo Voodoo, not a song I've seen them perform before.
- The daughter of Beth Jeans Houghton's bass player dancing on stage to their song Hot Toast.
- All-round superb quality of food. Special culinary award to the apple cupcakes.
- Robyn Hitchcock singing the songs from the 60s that Joe Boyd was reading about.
- Jonathan Ouin from Stornoway's Abe Lincoln/Amish beard. I later chatted to him in the queue for the campsite portaloos. Seems like a very nice chap.
- Andrew Bird's revolving gramophone speaker stage prop.
- British Sea Power's live score to Robert J Flaherty's 1934 film Man of Aran.
- Dirty Three frontman Warren Ellis's foul-mouthed, very funny, between-song banter.
- Novelist Richard Milward espousing the delights of heavy drug use and Spacemen 3.
- Jarvis Cocker's angular dancing. The man is part Stephen Fry, part Frank Sidebottom.
- Listening to England's Ashes win on my portable radio.
- Jonny (Norman Blake and Euros Childs) entire hilarious performance.
Biggest fail: not seeing Peter Broderick. Admittedly I'd never heard of him until this weekend but loads of people told me he was a highlight.

An excellent regret. Peter Broderick was awesome. As were Grizzly Bear, who I think were my highlight along with the beautiful Bon Iver.
